Ryan Borthwick Biography

Five Things We Didn't Know About You

1. I’ve played Guitar since I was 7!

2. I had started training as a lifeguard before I got my big break in radio.

3.  I played Rugby from a young age, but gave it up after a Ligament injury when I was in High school

4.  My obsession in collecting CD’s! (who needs downloads these days?)

5.  I once walked straight past 5 Seconds of Summer when they said hi to me (I didn’t know who they were at the time)

Career History

I started in radio when I was 15! Back in the day when I had to apply for work experience somewhere during High School!

Being Music Daft, I thought my local radio station, Radio Borders, would be a good idea - I was then hooked!

When I was 15, I became a presenter on a Local Youth Programme, before becoming Producer and Presenter on Saturday Nights a year later!

After a year of college studying radio, I became that guy who would talk through the night on Weekends!

Then in 2016 I took over the Late show across Scotland!

Career Highlight

So many! From producing a show that’s won awards! Working alongside people that I used to idolise as an aspiring presenter! (Boogie, Gavin Pearson, Gina McKie to name a few!) But I remember my first celeb interview - Pixie Lott! I’ve never been as nervous in my life, especially with about 20 people in the room at the same time! She was so lovely, and the interview even made it to air (mustn’t have been that bad then!)

Favourite Scottish Event of the Year

Being from a farming family, I can always remember having to go to the Royal Highland show as a kid! I still love going to it today! It’s always a great weekend!

Who is your favourite band/music act of all time?

There is only one boss I listen to! I’ve been a HUGE Bruce Springsteen fan since I was very young! The first tune I listen to when I wake up has to be a song from the Boss!

Who is the most interesting person you've ever met and why?

I remember meeting Ed Sheeran before he was mega famous, great person! Top banter!

If we gave you £1000, what would you spend it on?

A new guitar, collecting them is becoming an obsession!

If you weren't a Northsound 1 presenter, what would you be?

I would have tried to make it as a musician, but my voice is so poor, it would more likely get 4 no’s on The X Factor!
