Recent Programming & News Highlights

Since April of 2006 – the North East has been gripped with ‘Trump fever’. Legendary tycoon Donald Trump announced he wanted to open a golf resort to the tune of a billion pounds near Balmedie. Northsound’s newsteam has been there to bring you every step of the story, from his grand reveal in Manhattan, through the design stage, the controversial decision by the council to throw out the application, the public inquiry and we also broke the news before anyone else that the go ahead had finally been given.

Another major story that we have spent a lot of time covering is the drama that unfolded after 27 million pounds worth of budget cuts were announced by Aberdeen City Council. That has seen many campaigns spring up, made up of groups whose services face closure. We covered the accounts commission investigation into the authority’s management.

We are also dedicated to bringing you the best Dons coverage on the dial, which was cemented by our coverage of their UEFA Cup run. Despite going out at the hands of Bayern Munich, the Dons took to the road to add to an already busy season, with games in Copenhagen, Athens, and of course at Pittodrie. We have also been following their progress in the SPL and Scottish Cups into the new season where they are battling for another spot in Europe.

Northsound marked the 20th anniversary of the Piper Alpha offshore disaster by hosting a series of special programmes, including 'Piper Alpha 20 - Lest We Forget'.  This was a special documentary containing first hand accounts of the tragedy from survivors, families and others involved.
